The Art of Group Facilitation for Coaches: Six Session+ Series

Come in with an idea, leave prepared ready to launch and lead your unique group offering. This is for you if you are interested in developing your concept and deepening your group facilitation skills.

This course is designed for coaches and other individuals who have a group coach offering in mind and would like to learn group facilitation skills, and develop and launch their offering. It is also for seasoned group coach facilitators who would like to refine their skills. No prior group facilitation experience necessary.

Develop the skills and best practices you need to design, launch, facilitate and evaluate group coaching offerings.  The course addresses both facilitation theory and practice, exploring the role of the coach as facilitator. You will gain confidence through practicing facilitation with feedback.

This experiential intensive both models and unpacks:

  • advance design work

  • the nuts and bolts of facilitating group sessions

  • how to cultivate a safe and cohesive group environment 

  • creative ways to open and close sessions

  • recruiting and curating a group for maximum success

  • how to manage common challenges that can arise in group coaching

You'll experience each element as participants of this group, and learn how to implement each element in your own group. Through a combination of instructor-led modules and instructor facilitated working sessions, this course will strengthen your being and doing skills as a group facilitator. Full group sessions meet with instructors every 2 weeks for 2 hours. In the weeks between, you'll meet with a smaller selected peer group to practice group facilitation for 60 - 90 minutes.

Course Objectives

Upon completion, you will be able to:

  1. conceptualize an offer for a group coaching program, from idea through completion of the group;

  2. describe the roles and responsibilities of a group facilitator, including techniques for opening and closing a group, facilitating an appropriate mix of coaching and information sharing, and creating and holding a safer space group container;

  3. identify and manage common challenges that arise in groups and employ facilitation techniques to create optimal outcomes for participants;

  4. recognize best practices for honing and curating the group coaching offering and for recruiting participants to a group coaching experience; and

  5. understand the role of preparation as well as when and how emergent design principles can be employed to optimize for the needs of a group in each session.
