Inside Internal Coaching Roundtable:
Roles, Reality, Practice
with
Vanessa Hagerbaumer, PCC, and John Simon, MCC

Session Description

Internal coaching is one of the fastest-growing areas in the coaching profession—yet for many coaches, the path into these roles and what it truly takes to succeed remain unclear.

This interactive roundtable brings together internal coaches, coaching program leaders, and HR stakeholders to explore the realities of internal coaching within organizations. Together, we will examine how ICF Core Competencies translate into corporate environments —where complexity, stakeholder dynamics, and organizational context shape the work.

Through facilitated dialogue and shared experience, participants will gain practical insight into what internal coaching roles look like, how coaches are hired, and what it takes to feel confident and effective in these positions. This session is designed to bridge the gap between formal ICF training and real-world application inside organizations.

Core Questions We’ll Explore

  • What does your role as a coach look like within your organization?

  • What do internal coaches really do day to day?

  • What credentials, skills, and experiences are most important for getting hired?

  • Once in the role, what do coaches need to feel confident and effective?

  • How do coaching competencies show up in corporate coaching—and where do they need to flex or adapt?
